90's ooh I love these years when people rock! The birth of grunge and musical geniuses of our times. And would be icons of our generation. Like Nirvana Kurt Cobain itself was a prodigy in his own as per se. He started a grunge revolution Alternative Rock was born! I remember my high school years i use to save my allowance to purchase these cassette tape Nevermind and the track Smells like teen spirit was heavily played on the radio and the video was quiet simple concepted by Kurt itself.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg
Internet was not popular at that time but airplay on stations like NU 107 pave for us youth to Rock!
Pearl Jam also during the mid-90s set our spirits free thru their music with tracks like Daughter, Better Man, Yellow LedBetter . nuff said.
Before Apple and Blackberries came...haha! there was
the cranberries the band from Ireland with their lead vocals Dolores O'Riordan was belting Zombies. Ive witness this band in concert at the Araneta back in 96. It was the first of my string of concerts to follow on that same year. (Ode to my family,Salvation,im just trying to remember what other hits they have. and yeah Linger.
Not only Dolores but there was
Alanis Morissette knowing that chicks can rock too. Jagged Little Pill album was a multi-selling platinum record for a debut album. Hits like You Oughtta Know, You Learn, Hand in my pocket, almost all the tracks from that album became a hit. (23 November 1996 - Araneta Coliseum was jampacked with one helluva crowd, Sold out concert after only 2 weeks of announcement. But because we got good contacts from friends we got squeezed in for tickets, even manage to ticket swap from Bleachers to semi lower bleacher. (evil grin laugh Haha). When she went back to The Philippines I guess that was 98 or 2000, again ive watched it,but with less crowd at the Folk Arts Theater. Maybe because she suddenly found Zen after detoxing herself in India. I miss that old Alanis rocker chick persona, Now she became a pop artist with lyrics of good mantra. But still she's part of the 90s that rock our world. Natalie Merchant of 10000 Maniacs voice also for being a rocker chick, Tori Amos, Courtney Love's HOLE (Kurt Cobain's wife) Fiona Apple, Jewel a country rock artist but went desame spiral as Alanis became.
Yup! i considered them my
Happy Band. Knowing that all of them are Pinoy except for their Vocals Kimi. These L.A base band which I got to see back in 96, i guessed that was WORLD TRADE CENTER were they played. I recalled being given a green guitar pick which I still have by their guitarist Jay Encarnacion( FACT# Kimi's husband.) And my friend also Dexter manage to get the drumstick thrown by their drummer. I tried to message Kimi on Facebook and Boy she replied I was stuck in a moment. Hope this guys will rise again. Popular hits are Hear,Soon and Ren. She can even sing Juan Dela Cruz' Beep Beep! 100% perfectly.
RATM hell yeah! Zack is my man! Damn! I didnt fear for my life to end when they went to perform there greatness at the Cuneta Astrodome. It was just a week after that Alanis gig perhaps that these guys went.,I got a ticket but it was just the bleachers ,the moment when they turn off the lights everyone started to roll down the streamers including me. 20ft jump was worth it,rolling down all from the chairs all the way to the mosh pit! Guaranteed Sweat ramming each other ,my man Zack yelling
Bulls on Parade! Know ur Enemy, Killing in the Name, Sleep now in the Fire, Renegades of Funk -The sickest concert Ive been! Wish I could turn back time and experience all over again. Even jumping more than 20 feet.
Now bands like
Incubus that continue to renegade funk like RATM did. John Mayer trying to seduce musicality as well seducing hot chicks! yeah! Guys you should know how to play guitar and practice. You will never know what lies ahead of you. I just miss the Genre of the 90s. This is just my random thoughts about it. Wish people would be the same as before,They know how to write and pen from their equilibrium of soul. The message was clear and raw in your face interaction with the artist and his fans. Now I am looking forward for
they will play in Abu Dhabi on 16 December. Axl you better be worth it than Chinese Democracy. Sweet Child of Mine! Get Ready!
